Community Development Officer

As part of the management team for The Mersey Forest, lead and develop the community engagement and involvement objectives of The Mersey Forest Plan and Forest Business Plan working with colleagues in The Mersey Forest Team and the wider Forest Partnership.

This role involves; 

  • Promoting, supporting and championing community involvement in The Mersey Forest 
  • Project development and delivery 
  • Generating income from projects and consultancy based work 
  • Managing and reporting on budgets

The Mersey Forest is the largest of England’s Community Forests covering over 500 square miles on Merseyside and North Cheshire.  We are looking for an individual who can join help to deliver our ambitious plans to fully engage local communities in The Mersey Forest, to connect people to nature and deliver the aspirations for communities set out in The Mersey Forest Plan. You will bring enthusiasm, inspiration, innovation and significant practical knowledge to help deliver The Forest vision. 

You will be qualified to degree level and have a good understanding of a range of environmental issues, including the work of Community Forests and the challenge our communities face from climate change. You will have an excellent track record of winning resources and delivering excellent programmes. You will need to show that you have good experience of supporting a range of community groups and partner organizations to successfully deliver projects and make a real difference to people’s lives.  You will need to be target focused, positive inclusive, bursting with ideas and have a ‘can do’ mentality. 

This is a demanding but rewarding role. The Forest Team is delivering a range of high profile and leading-edge projects. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues and partners to sustain these projects and to look ahead and help guide our next steps. You will be part of the Management Team that will guide the future development of The Mersey Forest. 

Excellent communication and ICT skills are essential, as is the enthusiasm to turn ideas into reality.

The contractual work location for this role is listed above however you may be required to work from a range of work locations or sites within the Borough and may also be required to work from home, depending on the needs of the service.
